It seems Rohit Sharma has a penchant for scoring big on special occasions.
Rohit made a statement by coming back to form with a brilliant knock in the fifth ODI against South Africa in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.
Rohit, who had a miserable run so far in the Test and the ongoing ODI series, bounced back in style with an impressive century.
Rohit had scores of 11, 10, 10 and 47 in the four-Test innings before he was dropped for the third Test. In the first four ODIs, the India opener scored 20, 15, 0, 5 before smashing a century at St George’s Park ahead of Valentine’s Day.
India rode on Rohit’s 17th hundred to post a competitive 274/7 after South Africa had asked the visitors to bat first.
Rohit scored 115 off 126 balls in his first hundred in South Africa, a knock that was laced with 11 fours and 4 sixes.
In reply, South Africa was all out for 201 thanks to a six-wicket haul by India’s wrist-spinners — Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. India won the match by 73 runs and created history in South Africa.
For someone who had struggled to end his personal South African hoodoo, Rohit overcame all his batting demons and was rightly adjudged the Man of the Match for his exploits.
While a great batting display would have surely done wonders to Rohit’s confidence, the Indian opener, after the game, announced a special gift for his wife Ritika Sajdeh on Instagram. On Valentine’s Day, the 30-year-old took to Instagram and dedicated his MoM award to Ritika.
