After parting ways with Gambhir Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for seven years in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the franchise has named Dinesh Karthik as their new captain.
On Sunday, in a live television show, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise unveiled the vastly experienced Karthik as its leader for the upcoming season.
Venky Mysore, the CEO of KKR franchise, made the announcement; Simon Katich, the club’s assistant coach, who was part of the show via video conference, revealed the management’s considerations while choosing its new skipper.
Among other reasons, Karthik stood out, over Robin Uthappa and Chris Lynn, due to his 72 percent win record in T20s.
Under a new leader, Knight Riders will begin their campaign at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 8 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
