New Zealand’s fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan might not have been picked by any franchise during the Indian Premier League (IPL) players’ auction in January, but he’s been given another shot to make his mark in the cash-rich tournament.
The IPL Technical Committee has now approved Mitchell McClenaghan as a replacement for Australian left-arm fast bowler Jason Behrendorff in the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad.
Behrendorff, who is suffering from a back problem, has been ruled out of the upcoming edition of the IPL.
“In accordance with the Player Regulations, the Mumbai Indians were allowed to choose a replacement from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP),” an IPL media release said.
The Mumbai franchise picked McClenaghan at his base price of INR one crore.
The Kiwi pacer had been a part of MI squad for the past three seasons before going unsold in the auction ahead of this year’s competition. In 2017 he was a key contributor to their campaign, taking 19 wickets in 14 matches.
