IPL 2018: Virender Sehwag to open for KXIP against Delhi Daredevils

India veteran Virender Sehwag is all set to return to field one more time, according to his IPL team Kings XI Punjab.

The Preity Zinta co-owned franchise, KXIP, announced on Sunday that Viru will be back in action during their first IPL 2018 match against Delhi Daredevils at Mohali on April 8.

On Sunday morning Kings XI Punjab tweeted,

“BREAKING NEWS:
You’re in for a real treat. @virendersehwag will take the field in Vivo @IPL once again, replacing @AaronFinch5 for the season opener. It’s deja vu all over again.”

The release said that Sehwag will come out of retirement and will open the innings in the absence of Aaron Finch.

It has also been revealed that the decision was taken at the team preparatory camp in Mohali after a long deliberation by captain Ravichandran Ashwin, coach Brad Hodge, and the team management.

Virender Sehwag, who is the mentor of KXIP team, was also part of the discussions. Viru was last seen batting at the Ice Cricket 2018 tournament in St Moritz. He scored 62 off 31 in the first match and 46 off 22 balls in the second match there.

KXIP CEO Satish Menon was overjoyed with the decision.

“Virender Sehwag has been the backbone of our team for a number of years and has proved what a team player he is,” Menon remarked. “As usual, Viru has found us a way out. Fans will get to watch him in action at the IPL one last time and as a cricket fan myself I couldn’t be more delighted,” Menon was quoted as saying.

Well, this was a prank played by Virender Sehwag on his fans on occasion of April Fool’s day.

KXIP Twitter handle posted a video of Sehwag in the evening with a caption:
“Lol! A perfect prank by @virendersehwag 😋
