Chris Gayle notched up an unbeaten score of 103 runs, his sixth IPL century and the 21st ton in T20 format as Kings XI Punjab bagged a hat-trick of victories at home. En route to his 103, Gayle launched into world number one T20I bowler Rashid Khan decimating him for 41 runs off 16 deliveries.
Rashid, who recently garnered immense praise becoming top-ranked T20I bowler just at the age of 19, has been experiencing a quieter IPL season this year. And in Mohali, the big Jamaican took a special liking for the young Afghanistan leg-spinner, clobbering him for four consecutive sixes in the 14th over of KXIP innings.
The “Universe Boss” bludgeoned 26 runs of what was Rashid’s third over. Rashid did have his chance in that contest in the very first ball that he delivered to Gayle. The white ball had nicked the thick bottom edge of the bat but turned out to be a tough chance for Wriddhiman Saha to latch onto it. From there on, the 19-year-old was smashed for a total of 55 runs, which is the most he has ever conceded in T20 format.
