There is a popular saying in cricket, ‘Catches win matches’ and it was probably the same during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, when SRH were guilty of dropping a number of chances while RCB saw AB de Villiers produce arguably the catch of the tournament in his sides 14 run win over Kane Williamson & Co.
In the 8th over of second innings, Sunrisers opening batsman Alex Hales advanced down the track and whacked the leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal towards deep mid-wicket boundary where ‘Superman’ AB de Villiers was positioned.
The bowler as well as the batsman wouldn’t have ever thought of the effort ABD would produce to not just prevent the ball from crossing the boundary but also grab hold of it to send the batsman packing.
RCB captain Virat Kohli, seeing De Villiers pull off an absolute blinder, looked in disbelief before running to congratulate his teammate on the catch that even he wouldn’t have thought of pulling off.
