With a drive down the ground, Virat Kohli became the fastest batsmen to reach the milestone of 10,000 in ODIs during the second game of the five-match series against Windies in Visakhapatnam.
In doing so, the Indian captain became the 13th batsman in cricketing history to surpass the 10k-run mark in ODIs.
Kohli took just 205 innings to reach the five-figure mark. Sachin Tendulkar, who held the record previously, took 259 innings. The Delhi batsman has eclipsed the batting legend by an incredible 54 innings! Not just by the number of innings, Virat Kohli is the fastest to reach 10000 runs in terms of career-span, doing so in 10 years and 67 Days from his ODI debut. He went past Rahul Dravid’s record of 10 years 317 days.
Since Kohli achieved the landmark, countless wishes had come through for cricket’s undeniable luminary. The Bangladeshi veteran Mushfiqur Rahim wasn’t the one to miss out on the occasion either, taking to Twitter to write, “Congratulations to one and only sir virat kohli for reaching 10k runs in the blink of an eye.”

It was a blink of an eye indeed. Records and milestones have been only fleeting images in Kohli’s career so far, and the way this right-handed batsman is wielding his willow out in the middle, there’s bound to be many more records entered into the annals of the game’s history.
