Ravi Shastri reveals why Virat Kohli was rested for Asia Cup 2018

Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri on Tuesday finally disclosed the reason why skipper Virat Kohli was rested for the recently concluded Asia Cup 2018.

“Virat needed this rest. Physically he is a bull. You can’t get him out of the ground. And the thing with Virat is if he plays, then you know the level of intensity he brings. So it was a case of just mental fatigue, giving him a break, take your mind off cricket and then come back fresh”, Shastri was quoted as saying by Gulf News.

He further added that the other players will also be given rest from time to time to ensure that they are fresh and raring to go. “And we will have to do it with a lot of other players. You know like Bumah (Jasprit Bumrah), Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar), we have to sustain them and keep them energetic.”

Virat will lead the 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the Windies. The first Test of the series will begin from October 4 in Rajkot while the second Test will be played in Hyderabad from October 12.

Virat is expected to play the complete series against Jason Holder & Co., that comprises of two Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is.
