Stats: Virat Kohli becomes fastest to reach 8000 ODI runs at any batting position

Indian captain Virat Kohli continued his imperious run, scoring 107 against the Windies at the MCA stadium in Pune, to become the first Indian and the first captain of any country, to hit three consecutive ODI centuries.

Interestingly, when Kohli got to 20, he completed 8000 ODI runs while batting at No.3. He needed 17 runs to reach this milestone and completed it with a boundary.

Kohli reached the 8000 run-mark in ODIs at No.3 in just 154 innings making him the fastest to 8000 ODI runs at any batting position.

In terms of innings, Sachin Tendulkar was the previous fastest to 8000 runs at a position in ODI cricket. Tendulkar completed 8000 ODI runs as an opener in 179 innings. Other than Kohli and Tendulkar, no other player completed 8000 ODI runs inside 200 innings.

Batting at No.3, Sri Lanka veteran Kumar Sangakkara took 202 innings for this feat while former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly reached to 8000 ODI runs in 208 innings as an opener.
