Stats: Virat Kohli becomes the fastest captain to reach 8000 runs in international cricket

Team India captain Virat Kohli has been breaking records with every innings he plays. His knock against West Indies in the second ODI at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam is no different as he broke numerous world records.

Coming in after the fall of Rohit Sharma, Kohli crossed 10000 ODI runs before reaching his 37th ODI century in his unbeaten knock of 157 off 129 balls with the help of 13 fours and four sixes. He became the fastest to reach the milestone number, taking just 205 innings for the same.

Interestingly, another record beckoned his way during the sensational knock. He touched the figure of 8000 runs in international cricket as captain. Again, he became the fastest to reach this number. Kohli took just 113 matches and 137 innings, to reach the coveted feat.

The greatness of the Indian skipper can be measured from the fact that the next best in line to achieve this feat is former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. He completed 8000 runs as captain in 166 matches (187 innings).

Former Windies great Brian Lara is third in this list. He scored 8000 runs in international cricket as captain in 160 matches and 193 innings. The next best Indian captain to have achieved this feat is former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin. He took 218 matches and 227 innings to reach 8000 runs as captain in international cricket.

Legendary Indian wicket-keeper batsman and former skipper MS Dhoni also features in the list of top 7.
