IPL 2019: Mumbai Indians retain core squad, release 10 players

Three times IPL champions, Mumbai Indians have released 10 players ahead of the players’ auction for the next season. With the date for the players to be retained and released coming to an end on Thursday, the Mumbai franchise took to Twitter to make the list official.

While Akila Dananjaya and Mustafizur Rahman were already released by the franchise, MI also released eight more players in Saurabh Tiwary, Pradeep Sangwan, Mohsin Khan, MD Nidheesh, Sharad Lumba, Tajinder Singh Dhillon, JP Duminy, Pat Cummins.

Like most of the teams, Mumbai Indians has retained their core group for the IPL 2019. Rohit Sharma, who turned the tide for the team after taking over the captaincy duties, will continue to lead the franchise. Under Rohit’s captaincy, MI won three IPL titles in 2013, 2015 and 2017. Along with Rohit, MI also retained some of the brilliant players in form of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Krunal Pandya.

The list of players released by MI includes 1 capped, 5 uncapped and 4 international players. Kieron Pollard, Ben Cutting, Evin Lewis, Mitchell McClenaghan, and Adam Milne are some of the overseas players retained by the franchise.
