New Zealand Cricket has named the 30-year-old left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel to the ODI squad as a cover for the leg-spinner Todd Astle, who has picked up a right knee injury, as well as Lockie Ferguson and George Worker.
Corey Anderson, who returned to international cricket after 18 months during the recently concluded T20I series against Pakistan, was ruled out on account of an injured heel sustained during the last match and will return home for further medical investigations.
Ferguson is now the fourth fast bowler in New Zealand’s ODI squad, while Central Stags batsman George Worker will open in place of the injured Martin Guptill.
The first of three ODIs against Pakistan will be played in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
