India opening batsman Rohit Sharma on Thursday crossed the 200-sixes mark during the fifth and final ODI against the Windies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
Rohit scored a stroke-filled fifty to guide India to a 9-wicket win over the visitors and clinch the five-match series 3-1.
En route his unbeaten knock of 63, Rohit became the fastest batsman to hit 200 sixes in ODIs, achieving the feat in only 187 innings.
He broke Shahid Afridi’s previous record of 195 innings as the ‘Hitman of Indian cricket’ clobbered four sixes and five fours. Thus far, Rohit has smashed the maximums at a ratio of 1.08 sixes per innings.
The list of top 6 is garnered by some of the biggest hitters who have played the game. Former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers reached to 200 ODI sixes in 214 innings and is third on the list. He is followed by Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle who are known to be two of the fiercest hitters in the cricketing world. The former Kiwi captain got there in 228 innings while the ‘Universe Boss’ reached the landmark in 241 outings.
Former India skipper MS Dhoni is sixth on the list as he struck his 200th ODI six in the 248th outing.
