There was a lot of buzz about the discarded Indian all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, ahead of the 2019 IPL auction. After the poor outings last year, the 37-year-old was released by the Kings XI Punjab franchise and put back into the auction pool. There were clouds of uncertainty if he would get a buyer in the auction this time.
Yuvraj, who has been the architect of some of the most memorable wins for India lost his sheen with the bat in recent times. Also, he isn’t bowling as much as he used to do earlier and has been quite ineffective. Therefore, there were a lot of eyes following him up keenly during the auction.
The left-hander did go unsold in the first round of the auction causing concern among the fans. However, he was second-time lucky when he was called back again by the franchises to go under the hammer. On the second occasion, three times IPL champions- Mumbai Indians (MI) decided to lift the paddle to indicate that they were interested in buying him. The gavel of Hugh Edmeades went down with the call ‘sold’ which brought about a sigh of relief for both Yuvraj and his fans.
Many were extremely happy and relieved to see Yuvraj being picked for another IPL season. Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh was among those and he shared his happiness on the micro-blogging website, Twitter.
“If you are wondering why this took time…we’ve just got back to senses! WELCOME TO MUMBAI, @YUVSTRONG12 #CricketMeriJaan #IPLAuction,” the MI handle tweeted. There was a PUBG sort of graphic put up along with this tweet. Yuvraj was seen donning the Mumbai colours in that picture.
In his reply to this tweet, Ranveer Singh wrote, “OUUUH YIEEEAH!!!!!”

Yuvraj, one of the most explosive batsmen ever to have played for India and the only Indian to have hit six consecutive sixes in a T20I match, will be looking to revive his IPL career with Mumbai Indians. No franchises showed interest in the all-rounder, who is believed to have past his prime. However, MI team owner Akash Ambani said that they had been planning from long to sign Yuvraj and that he was their biggest buys ever in the tournament’s history.
