Dale Steyn has become South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in Test cricket, after claiming his 422nd wicket in Centurion on Wednesday.
He achieved this momentous feat when he removed Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman for 12 runs in the first session of the first day of the Boxing Day Test in Centurion. The 35-year-old speedster overtook Shaun Pollock, whose record of 421 wickets had stood for over 10 years.
The unforgettable moment came after 6.1 overs when Steyn delivered a length delivery that slightly moved away from Zaman who chased it only to get an outside edge that went in the direction of Dean Elgar at third slip for an easy catch.
After Steyn accomplished the milestone, fellow fast bowler Kagiso Rabada lifted him on his shoulders to express gratitude to the seamer for his contributions to South African cricket.
