IPL 2019: 1003 players, including 232 overseas cricketers register for the auction

As many as 1003 players have registered for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, including 232 overseas cricketers.

With 70 spots available to be filled, the list includes 200 capped players, 800 uncapped and three players from Associate Nations. Among the 800 uncapped, 746 are Indians.

Among foreign countries, South Africa have the maximum number of entrants (59), followed by Australia (35) and West Indies (33). Afghanistan has seen a massive boost, with 27 players registering for the auction.

Sri Lanka (28), New Zealand (17), England (14), Bangladesh (10) and Zimbabwe (5) are the other countries that have seen registrations.

Franchises have been given a time till 5:00 PM IST on December 10 to submit their shortlist of players that will make up the final list.

The IPL 12 players’ auction will take place on December 18 in Jaipur.

Meanwhile, for the first time in IPL history, Richard Madley won’t be the auctioneer. In Hugh Edmeades, an independent fine art, classic car and charity auctioneer – IPL will have a new gavel master. With over 30 years of experience at Christie’s, Edmeades will engage the bidders from eight franchises in his inimitable style.
