New Zealand defeated Pakistan in a Test series away from home for the first time in 49 years after thumping the home side by 123 runs in the third and final encounter on Friday.
Chasing 280 to win in 79 overs on the last day, Pakistan was 55/5 at lunch and was bundled out for 156 in an extended middle session.
Fast bowler Tim Southee, who was playing his first Test in the 3 match series, took 3-42 while 34-year-old debutant William Somerville and fellow spinner Ajaz Patel, playing his third Test, shared six wickets.
Kane Williamson & Co. scored 274 and 353-7 declared, against Pakistan’s 348 and 156, to clinch the series 2-1. The Blackcaps won the first Test by four runs at the same venue, and lost the second in Dubai by an innings.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:

When Misbah and Younis were playing, Pakistan lost only 4 Tests out of 24 in the UAE. Since then they have lost 4 out of seven. #PakvNZ

Pakistan will now need to survive 2 sessions with 5 wickets in hand to avoid a series defeat at home against New Zealand, this despite brilliance from Yasir Shah. While NZ have been sensational, Pak batting clearly letting them down #PakvNZ

End to Pakistan's fortress in UAE and an unhealthy amount of Test cricket from UAE that I have watched in the past two months. #PAKvNZ

New Zealand win it! What a game. What a win. One for the ages. No matter how Pakistan is they rule UAE. The fortress has been breached. One of the best wins in NZ history imo. What a champion – Kane Williamson. Hats off.
