In the final session of Day 1 of the first Test between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval, the Aussie speedster Pat Cummins somehow produced what cricket legend Adam Gilchrist labelled the “best run out ever”.
Cheteshwar Pujara had already scored his century and was just trying to see out the final few overs before stumps when he drove a Josh Hazlewood delivery to mid-on and took off for a quick single.
Pujara (123) didn’t bank on Cummins getting to the ball with lightning pace, scooping it up with one hand, and then getting a throw away while in the air diving and twisting.
Cummins’ unbelievable throw hit the stumps directly at an angle where he would have only had one stump visible, catching Pujara short by about a metre.
