IPL 2019: Steve Smith ruled out of the upcoming edition

Suspended ex-Aussie skipper Steve Smith is all set to miss the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) due to elbow injury he suffered during his Bangladesh Premier League stint.

Smith also missed the last edition of IPL due to a ban imposed on him by Cricket Australia (CA) for the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.

According to reports in cricket.com.au, Smith would now undergo an elbow surgery.

The operation would be done on Tuesday to repair a ligament in his right elbow. Moreover, the country’s cricket board also mentioned that Smith would be wearing a brace for the next six weeks and thereafter will undergo extensive rehabilitation. It also means that his participation in the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales, starting May 30, has well and truly also come under the clouds.

Smith was retained by Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2019 auction. He was all set to make his comeback in the 12th edition of the IPL along with teammate David Warner but injury has ruled the 29-year-old out of the tournament.
