Laura McGoldrick interviews husband Martin Guptill after his century helps New Zealand thrash Bangladesh in first ODI

Martin Guptill returned to form with an unbeaten century as New Zealand powered to an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first ODI at McLean Park in Napier on Wednesday.

Bangladesh set New Zealand a modest run chase of 233 after suffering an early collapse and the hosts overhauled it in 44.3 overs, finishing at 233 for 2.

Quite expectantly, Guptill was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’. The Auckland-born opening batsman had more reasons to cheer as he was interviewed by none other than his wife, Laura McGoldrick.

“The most pleasing thing was how the guys restricted Bangladesh up front with the ball. Losing 4 wickets in the first 10 is really tough to come back from. It (his back) is going to be a bit stiff. It is nice to see the boys home. Sometimes yes, sometimes no (time off from cricket helps) it still didn’t feel fluent. At most parts we talk to each other but he (Taylor) just lets me through as I bat longer,” Guptill said during the interview.

Guptill’s unbeaten 117-run knock made sure that it helped the Black Caps to a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

McGoldrick and Guptill entered the wedlock back in September 2014 in Auckland. Around 200 people attended the auspicious ceremony. The couple tied the knot at St Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Remuera. Both met during a chat show and got engaged back in October 2013. They also have a daughter named Harley and have shared their child’s pictures on Instagram.
