Smriti Mandhana reveals the reason behind her jersey number 18, same as Virat Kohli

India women cricket team’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, on Wednesday, made her debut on ‘Chahal TV’, the popular chat show for BCCI, hosted by Yuzvendra Chahal.

Mandhana, who recently won the ICC Women’s Player of the Year award and went up to the top in ICC rankings for batters, shares the jersey number 18 with the male ICC Player of the Year, Virat Kohli.

Mandhana has revealed the reason why she went for No. 18 jersey.

“First I wanted number 7 on the back of my jersey. My roll number at school was 7. But someone else had already taken 7. Vikas sir, our team manager, then suggested me to take 18 since my birthday is on 18 July. I knew it only a couple of years ago that Virat also has been playing with 18 on the back of his jersey,” she said.

Smriti also made fun of Chahal’s batting prowess in the episode. The batter said that she thought about improving her own game after watching him bat in the fourth ODI against New Zealand.

Chahal was the top scorer among the Men in Blue with 18 not-out runs when India were bowled out for a paltry 92 runs.
