WATCH: MS Dhoni plays a unique defensive shot to save his wicket

Since his return to the Indian side, MS Dhoni has been hitting the headlines with his batting and wicket-keeping as the veteran continues to guide slow bowlers to scalp wickets at crucial stages of matches.

However, he was spotted doing something unique during the second T20I between New Zealand and India at the Eden Park in Auckland.

The incident happened in the 16th over of the chase when Ish Sodhi was bowling. Dhoni was on the strike even as India were on course for a victory to level the series and the Blackcaps were desperately in need of a wicket to make a comeback.

Sensing an opportunity to go big, the veteran batsman came down the track only for Sodhi to deliver the ball wide outside of the off-stump.

Within a split second, Dhoni realised that he won’t be reaching to the pitch of the ball and therefore concentrated on returning back to the crease with his back leg. He was completely bluffed by the leggie as Dhoni also tried to bring his bat inside the crease.

However, while bringing his bat back in the crease, he smacked the ball towards point. There was no fielder there and Dhoni quickly ran for a single.

Meanwhile, India levelled the three-match T20I series 1-1 after defeating New Zealand by seven wickets in the second game. India will look to seal the series on Sunday as they gear up to lock horns with the Kiwis in the third and final T20I at the Seddon Park in Hamilton.
