Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has granted Lasith Malinga permission to play in the 12th edition Indian Premier League (IPL).
On Tuesday, Sri Lanka’s chief national selector, Ashantha de Mel, spoke to the pacer in Colombo and it was decided that he can skip the domestic Super Provincial One-Day Tournament, which he was earlier expected to take part in.
Therefore, Malinga will be now available for the remaining matches of the Mumbai Indians.
“It has been decided that he will not play the domestic tournament and will be available entirely in the IPL. We spoke at length today, and that’s what we discussed,” Mel was quoted as saying to Sportstar.
“SLC decided to give permission to Lasith Malinga to play in the ongoing IPL. The management decided to release Malinga from participating in the Super Provincial; since he would get an opportunity to play with much stronger opposition in IPL; which consist of international players,” confirmed SLC through Twitter.

The SLC had earlier announced that only those players would be eligible for selection in the World Cup squad, who would compete in Super Provincial One-Day domestic tournament, slated from April 4 to 11.
Meanwhile, Malinga is expected to join the MI squad in Bengaluru on Wednesday and he may be available for selection in the upcoming game against Royal Challengers Bangalore led by Virat Kohli.
