India all-rounder Vijay Shankar took a stunning catch in the deep to dismiss Australia’s opening batsman Usman Khawaja in the first ODI at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The incident occurred on the final ball of the 24th over. Khawaja came out of his crease to hit a Kuldeep Yadav delivery over mid-wicket into the stands. The left-hander made decent contact with the ball but got his placement wrong.
Shankar, who was fielding at deep mid-wicket, ran to his right and then slid on the ground to complete a brilliant catch.
“This is Vijay Shankar’s wicket, not so much Kuldeep Yadav,” Sunil Gavaskar was heard saying on air. Also, in the background, delirious fans applauded Shankar’s effort.
