IPL 2019: Ajinkya Rahane fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate offence

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Ajinkya Rahane will have to fork out Rs 12 lakhs after he was fined for slow overrate during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai on Sunday.

“Rajasthan Royals captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 match against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on 31st March 2019,” the IPL said in a statement.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rahane was fined Rs 12 lakh.”

After opting to bowl first, RR was able to complete the first innings only at 21:58 local time after starting at 20:00. CSK managed to squeeze in a tight win – by eight runs – after RR fell short in chase of 175.

The struggling outfit next hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Jaipur on Tuesday.
