IPL 2019: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma suffers a hamstring injury

Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma has picked up an injury ahead of his team’s IPL encounter against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and less than a week before the announcement of India’s 15-man World Cup squad.

MI will take on Ravichandran Ashwin-led KXIP at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday night. Rohit sustained an injury in the right hamstring during his team’s evening practice session on Tuesday.

When ‘Hitman’ went down writhing in pain, team physiotherapist Nitin Patel rushed to tend to him.

Rohit finally got back to his feet a short while later and hobbled off to the dressing room for further treatment and did not complete the remainder of the practice session.

There isn’t any official word about the details of his injury from Mumbai’s team management, but fans will hope the injury isn’t serious, considering the countdown for the World Cup has already started.

The Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup will be announced on 15th of April. The mega ICC event begins on May 30.

Rohit was suffering from a hamstring injury in the last ODI World Cup in 2015 too and had missed three matches.
