IPL 2019: SRH opener David Warner bids an emotional farewell to this season

David Warner has signed off from the IPL season 12 in swashbuckling style, smashing 81 off just 56 deliveries to help Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a 45-run victory over Kings XI Punjab at the Uppal stadium on Monday.

Warner, who will return to Australia to begin preparations for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales, has made a stunning return to action following his 12-month suspension.

The southpaw has clubbed 692 runs in his 12 innings for the Sunrisers, including eight 50s and a century, and will head to the UK in red-hot form ahead of his reintroduction to the Australian side.

“It is great to get out there and do your job properly. We have the luxury of a great deck and the ground staff have worked tirelessly to prepare a good wicket for us. It comes back to basics, backing your game plan and instincts. I did that and put the team in a good position,” Warner said after the match against Kings XI Punjab in Hyderabad.

“I have had time off to work harder at my game. Put the bat down for 16-18 weeks and just worked hard on being the best father and husband, that has worked for me. I try and always do that around the team, be the funny man and prankster and try my best to what is good for the team,” Warner added.

Meanwhile, the Sunrisers have two away encounters before the end of the league stage. They will face Mumbai Indians on May 2 followed by their last league game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 4.
