IPL 2019 Final: Out or Not out? Harbhajan Singh opens up about MS Dhoni’s controversial decision

Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by just one run run to clinch their record fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 title on Sunday. But the MI vs CSK final was not short of some controversial moments – the biggest being MS Dhoni’s game-changing run out.

The CSK skipper walked into bat with Shane Watson going great guns at the other end but steadily running out of partners. The need of the hour for CSK was what Dhoni does best – bat patiently and chase the total down one run at a time.

MSD made his usual slow start to the innings but after scoring just 2 runs off 8 balls, his stay at the crease was brought to an end courtesy a rocket throw from MI fielder Ishan Kishan.

Meanwhile, CSK off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Monday said Dhoni’s run out was one of the key points where the IPL 2019 final drifted away from them in their 150-run chase against MI.

Revealing the 1-run defeat was heartbreaking for CSK players, Harbhajan added the 3-time champions wanted the MS Dhoni decision to go their way in the tense final at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Speaking to India Today, the veteran offie said: “Well, we would have liked MS Dhoni’s decision to go in our way. If you see, the angles… from one end it looked out, from one end he looked to have made it.

“It was a tough decision to make. A lot of times it’s been said that the decision should be given in batsman’s favour. In Dhoni’s case, it wasn’t given. I think it’s one of the key points where the game drifted away from us. Apart from that, I didn’t think we built enough partnerships. Watson almost pulled a miracle for us. But it wasn’t enough in the end.”
