ICC World Cup 2019: Twitter erupts as Eoin Morgan smashes the most number of sixes in an ODI innings

Eoin Morgan completed his maiden World Cup 2019 hundred with his 11th six of an astonishing innings and went on to hit 17 maximums in a sensational 148.

Morgan came to the crease with 20 overs of the innings remaining, England having reached 164-2 from 29.5 overs.

The English captain then set about accelerating towards 400, blasting his way past the one hundred mark off just 57 deliveries and going to make history as the first player to hit 17 sixes in an ODI innings.

With Morgan making his way to the crease alongside Joe Root, England had their eyes set on 400 and Root joined in the fun with his first six as he too edged towards a century.

After Root was dismissed for 88, Morgan went on to hit his 17th six – a record in ODI cricket – before being dismissed for 148 (71 balls) with the very next ball.

England finally finished at 397-6 in their full quota of 50 overs.
