Australia’s top-order batsman Steve Smith was dismissed by one of the best outfield catches ever seen by the West Indies star Sheldon Cottrell at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in Trent Bridge on Thursday.
Smith, who was batting on 73 not out at the time, flicked a delivery from Oshane Thomas off his toes flat and hard towards the boundary.
The ball looked destined to clear the boundary rope the moment it left Smith’s bat. But Cottrell had other ideas.
Running close to the boundary from his fielding position at fine leg, Cottrell flung his left hand out and pouched the ball.
But his job was not done, as his momentum took him over the boundary. He threw the ball up, steadied himself and reclaimed it to complete a stunning catch.
It was definitely a catch that will be a contender for ‘catch of the tournament’.
