CWC 2019: Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni heroics goes in vain as New Zealand beat India to reach the final

Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni’s heroics went in vain as India crashed out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 after losing to New Zealand in a thrilling semifinal clash by 18 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Both batsmen played valiant knocks to rescue the side after early setback but fell just short of the victory margin as India were bundled out for 221 while chasing 240.

India got off to a disastrous start as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were back to the pavilion when the score was only five. While Matt Henry dismissed both the openers Rohit Sharma (1) and KL Rahul (1), Trent Boult removed Virat Kohli (1).

Dinesh Karthik (6) became the third victim of Henry when India’s score was 24. Pant and Pandya then steadied the innings. But Mitchell Santner removed both to reduce India to 92/6. It was here when Jadeja joined Dhoni at the crease and launched India’s fight back.

Earlier, gutsy knocks from Kane Williamson (67) and Ross Taylor (74) guided New Zealand to a fighting total in the rain-affected clash. As New Zealand resumed the play from 211/5 in 46.1 overs, Taylor got run out after adding just seven runs to his overnight score. Bhuvneshwar Kumar then struck with his twin-blow sending back Tom Latham (10) and Matt Henry (1).
