England have announced the 12-man squad for the second Ashes Test scheduled to start on August 14 (Wednesday) at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground in London.
Speedster Jofra Archer has been named in the squad with James Anderson making way for the youngster after suffering a calf injury in the series opener at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Meanwhile, Moeen Ali has been omitted from England’s squad in place of left-arm spinner Jack Leach.
The all-rounder struggled with both bat and ball in the first Test at Edgbaston, scoring just 0 and 4 and returning 3/172 from 42 overs across the match. In contrast, Nathan Lyon, Australia’s off-spinner took nine wickets in the game and bowled with superb control, going at under three runs per over in both innings.
Leach last played for England against Ireland in July, when he was Player of the Match at Lord’s after scoring 92 as an opener.
Batsman Jason Roy, who made scores of 10 and 28 in the first Test, has kept his place in the 12-man squad, as have Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow, who scored a combined 20 runs at Edgbaston.
England squad for second Ashes Test:
