IND vs SA: Dale Steyn apologizes to Virat Kohli after T20I snub

South Africa pace sensation Dale Steyn, who recently retired from Test cricket, did not find a place in the T20I squad touring India in September. He took a jibe at selectors for excluding him from the shortest version of the game.

Steyn had bid farewell to Test cricket in order to focus on T20Is as well as ODIs.

Besides, the selectors did not give any particular reason behind the omission. The fast bowler also made it clear that he was very much available for selection.

Taking a sarcastic dig at the selection panel, he tweeted that perhaps, they had missed out on him during the reshuffling of the coaching staff.

He wrote – “I did… Obviously lost my number in the reshuffling of coaching staff.”

Meanwhile, the same journalist tweeted that the selectors were most probably saving Steyn for bigger games. The disappointed 36-year-old apologized to Indian team skipper Virat Kohli and the fans on behalf of Cricket South Africa (CSA) for not considering the India tour important.

“Apologies to Virat and a billion people for thinking they not.”

Dale Steyn played 44 T20Is for the Proteas, where he scalped 61 wickets at an average of 17.50. He proved pretty miserly, giving away runs at an economy rate of 6.79.

India and South Africa will lock horns in a three-match T20I series next month. The first T20I will take place in Dharamsala on September 15. The remaining two matches are scheduled to be played in Mohali and Bengaluru on September 18 and 22 respectively.
