India inflicted an embarrassing 318-run defeat on the West Indies in the first Test as Jasprit Bumrah dismantled the hosts with a five-wicket haul after Ajinkya Rahane scored his first century in two years, on Sunday.
West Indies were chasing a mammoth 419-run target, but the Indian pacers led by Bumrah demolished the hosts, who were bowled out for a mere 100 in 26.5 overs in the final session of the fourth day.
It was a Bumrah show in perfect weather conditions as he sent the wickets cart-wheeling thrice during his eight-over spell in which he conceded just seven runs.
The win also made Virat Kohli the joint-most successful Indian Test captain along with MS Dhoni as it was his 27th win as skipper in the longest format of the game. Kohli is now the most successful overseas Test captain for India as he went past Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 11 wins on the road.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Emphatic victory for India! Excellent effort by our pacers, especially @ImIshant in the 1st innings and @Jaspritbumrah93 in the 2nd innings. #INDvWI pic.twitter.com/bQBW7Kaghd

Happy for Rahane. But Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings was absolutely unplayable. Fiist Asian bowler to take a 5-for in all 4 countries – Australia, South Africa, England and West Indies .#INDvsWI

Bumrah's O-M-R-W is currently 8-4-7-5. I'm going to make this my ATM PIN.

India do a wonderful job of managing Jasper Bumrah’s workload so far in his career. What a wonderful exponent he is. Archer, Afridi, Rabada, Cummins, Lockie Ferguson. Quite exciting for world cricket!!!

Jasprit Bumrah is the first Indian bowler in Test history to take five-wicket hauls in Australia, England, South Africa and West Indies.
And he does it on just his first tours to this countries and he's played only 11 Tests yet! #WIvInd
