India produced a clinical performance to register a 59-run win over the West Indies in a rain-hit second ODI at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Sunday.
Batting first, captain Virat Kohli smashed his 42nd ODI century as India scored a comprehensive 279-7 on the board in their stipulated 50 overs.
After the rain break, the hosts were given a revised target of 270 runs in 46 overs but were bundled out for 210 with four more overs to go.
As the first ODI of the three-match series was abandoned due to rain in Guyana, India took a 1-0 lead with the third and final match to be played at the same venue on Wednesday (August 14).
In the chase, Jason Holder & Co. were on course at 148 for four before they lost their last six wickets for just 62 runs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4/31) was pick of the bowlers for India, while Mohammed Shami (2/39) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/59) scalped two wickets apiece.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Virat Kohli has never gone more than five half centuries without converting to a century. He was on the cusp of it today, but No 42 was inevitable. Privelidged to be around to see the master of modern ODI cricket batting. #bestallformatplayer

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had tremendous success at the Queen's Park Oval in ODIs with 15 wickets in 5 innings at an average of 6.53. Of the 329 combinations where a bowler has taken 15+ wickets at a venue in ODIs, no bowler has a lower average compared to Bhuvneshwar. #WIvIND pic.twitter.com/TECtwlOWCn

That century is proof hard work always pays off. It is hot, humid and Kohli struggled out there. That innings included some of the best shots I've seen him play. 42nd ODI hundred. #INDvsWI

Virat Kohli scores an ODI ton after 11 innings and it seemed like eternity to all of us. That's how accustomed we've become to watch him thump tons with ridiculous ease & consistency. No. 42 for the King !!! #INDvWI @imVkohli
