Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced the 13-member squad for the two-match Test series against India on Friday.
Rahkeem Cornwall has been rewarded for his impressive performance in the West Indies Championship and the West Indies ‘A’ team, since making his first-class debut just under five years ago.
The six-foot five-inch Cornwall has taken 260 wickets in 55 first-class matches and can be given a chance to shine at the international stage in the upcoming two-match series, which begins on August 22.
The 26-year-old man mountain is also an excellent lower-order batsman. He averages just below 25 in 97 innings.
“Rahkeem has been performing consistently over a long period of time and has proven to be a match-winner, so we believe his elevation to the Test squad is merited at this time,” said the chief selector Robert Haynes.
West Indies and India will play two Tests – from August 22 to 26 at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Cornwall’s native Antigua, and from August 30 to September 3 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
