WI vs IND: Virat Kohli opens about Deepak Chahar, Rishabh Pant’s performances and World Cup 2023 preparation

In the last T20I match of the series at Providence Stadium in Guyana, India defeated Windies by 7 wickets. Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant played a match-winning knock of 65 runs off 42 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes.

Playing his first match of the tournament, Indian pacer Deepak Chahar dismissed top 3 Windies batsman giving only 4 runs in his 3 overs spell. For his brilliant bowling, he was chosen the ‘Man of the Match’.

After the match, Indian skipper Virat Kohli expressed his thoughts regarding the team’s overall performance. Kohli was happy with the bowling unit, especially young pacer Deepak Chahar comparing him to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

With the new ball, his skills are right up there (with Bhuvi’s), swinging it both ways and getting a lot with the new ball in any conditions, and that has been his USP in the IPL as well“, said Kohli.

Talking about young Rishabh Pant, the skipper said, “We are looking at him as the future. He’s got a lot of skill and a lot of talent. It is about giving him some space and not putting too much pressure. He’s come a long way since he’s started.

On being inquired about World Cup 2023 preparation, Kohli told, “It’s too far away to think about 2023. You really start planning for the World Cup about 12 months before and not 4 years before. I think the priority is to keep Indian Cricket on the top.
