After Malinga, Karunaratne pull out of Pakistan tour, Sri Lankan team announce new captains for ODI and T2OI squad

On Wednesday, the Sri Lanka Cricket board announced the squad for the upcoming tour of Pakistan. The board names Lahiru Thirimanne as the captain for the ODI squad while Dasun Shanaka will lead the T20I side.

Earlier this week, ten Sri Lankan players including T20I skipper Lasith Malinga and ODI captain Dimuth Karunaratne opted out of the tour due to security fears.

On 3rd March 2009, the Sri Lankan team’s bus was attacked by militants in Lahore resulting in Pakistan losing the rights to host international matches. For this tour, the Sri Lankan Cricket board gave the players the freedom to decide if they wanted to travel. The announced squads include a lot of youngsters.

T20I:
Dasun Shanaka (c), Danushka Gunathilaka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Avishka Fernando, Oshada Fernando, Shehan Jayasuriya, Angelo Perera, Bhanuka Rajapaksha, Minod Bhanuka, Lahiru Madushanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lakshan Sandakan, Isuru Udana, Nuwan Pradeep, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara

ODI:
Lahiru Thirimanne (c), Danushka Gunathilaka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Avishka Fernando, Oshada Fernando, Shehan Jayasuriya, Dasun Shanaka, Minod Bhanuka, Angelo Perera, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lakshan Sandakan, Nuwan Pradeep, Isuru Udana, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara

During the tour, scheduled from September 27 to October 9, the two teams will compete against each other in three ODIs and three T20Is.
