Chennai Super Kings shut down MS Dhoni’s retirement rumours in Game of Thrones style

The rumours of MS Dhoni announcing his retirement from competitive cricket spread like fire on social media soon after Team India captain Virat Kohli shared a throwback picture on Thursday, revealing how MSD made him run like in a fitness test during the 2016 T20 World Cup match against Australia.

Some people on various social media platforms added further fuel to the fire, suggesting Dhoni has called a press conference at 7:00 PM (IST).

The rumours were rubbished later in the day by both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee chief MSK Prasad and Dhoni’s wife Sakshi. With the Indian cricketing fraternity going into panic mode during the speculative stage, Mahi’s Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also posted a tweet ruling out the 38-year-old’s retirement.

CSK did so in a unique fashion, using one of the most famous quotes of the popular fantasy-drama series Game of Thrones (GOT) ‘Not Today’.

A fan later asked CSK to clarify their tweet on the subject. The Chennai-franchise then put a comma (,) followed by a green tick and a full stop (.) followed by a red cross, clarifying that it’s only a brief pause in the career of Dhoni and an end hasn’t come yet.

The famous GOT quote was used in the series by the sword teacher of Arya Stark (the youngest of the Stark daughters), ‘Syrio Forel’. The complete quote goes like: “There is only one God, and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: ‘Not Today’.”
