Harbhajan Singh backs Sanju Samson for No. 4 position, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh respond

The Indian team’s number four problem doesn’t seem to end. The national selectors tried out several options like Ambati Rayudu, KL Rahul, Vijay Shankar, and Rishabh Pant. However, not a single one out of them could make the position his own.

Recently, India’s new batting coach Vikram Rathour backed Shreyas Iyer for the no. 4 spot. Rathour even mentioned Manish Pandey’s name.

Head coach Ravi Shastri also had said that Iyer would be Team India’s No. 4 batsman.

Iyer batted at five in the ODI series against the West Indies and struck two match-winning fifties. In both the games, he built a steady partnership with captain Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh, the legendary off-spinner, felt that Sanju Samson could resolve India’s No. 4 issue. The Kerala batsman played a crackling knock against South Africa ‘A’ in Thiruvananthapuram, and guided India A to a commanding victory by 36 runs. Samson churned out 91 runs off 48 deliveries, which included six boundaries and seven sixes.

Harbhajan was thoroughly impressed by the youngster’s technique with which he constructed his match-winning innings.

Bhajji praised Samson on Twitter. He wrote – “Why not @IamSanjuSamson at number 4 in odi.. with good technique and good head on his shoulders.. well played today anyways against SA A .”

Former India left-hander Yuvraj Singh, who thought differently, replied to the Turbanator’s tweet –

“Top order is very strong bro they don’t need no 4 batsman.”

Yuvi followed it up with a laughing emoticon.

However, former India opener Gautam Gambhir completely agreed with Harbhajan Singh.

He tweeted – “Yes @harbhajan_singh on current form and his skills this Southern Star, @IamSanjuSamson can bat even on Moon’s South Pole!!! I wonder if they had space on Vikram to carry this marvel of a batsman. Well done Sanju on scoring 91 off 48 balls against South Africa A side.”

Earlier, even before Harbhajan, it was Gambhir who had opined that Sanju Samson would be best for the No. 4 position.
