The Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday granted Misbah-ul-Haq a three-year contract for the Pakistan head coach and chief selector role. The previous coach, Mickey Arthur was sacked after the team’s poor performance in the ICC World Cup 2019.
Serving as a head coach and chief selector at the same time means Misbah would have a lot of power. But PCB has a different view on this matter.
“The concept of a head coach also being a chief selector is an innovative one and a new introduction to our system. But, while the PCB has further empowered Misbah, it has also put more responsibility on his shoulders,” said PCB’s CEO, Wasim Khan.

Indian commentator and cricket expert, Harsha Bhogle didn’t seem to be on board with this new method. Harshapointed out that this process may result in players not sharing their issues with coaches.
“Never been a fan of one person being coach and selector. Players come to a coach with a problem. If they know that that knowledge could result in them being dropped, they may not be honest with coaches. #Misbah,” tweeted Harsha Bhogle.
