On Tuesday (September 24), in a low scoring match, India defeated South Africa by 11 runs at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat. Winning the first game, India goes up 1-0 in the five-match series.
It was also a magnificent sight as the stadium was packed with spectators. The fans came out in huge numbers to support the home team. Over the years, BCCI has invested a lot of resources to increase the awareness and viewership of women cricket.

Earlier, South African skipper Sune Luus won the toss and invited team India to bat first. Opening batsman Shafali Verma got dismissed without scoring any runs. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur played brilliant innings of 43 runs off 34 balls, smashing 3 fours and 2 sixes. At the end of 20 overs, India managed to score 130/8.
During South African innings, the Indian bowlers took wickets at regular intervals putting pressure on the opposition batsmen. In the end, the Proteas team got all-out for 119 runs in 19.5 overs. For India, Deepti Sharma took 3 wickets giving only 8 runs, while Shikha Pandey, Poonam Yadav, and Radha Yadav dismissed 2 batsmen each.
The second game of the tournament will be played on September 26 at the same venue.
