Who is the best batsman between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith? Sourav Ganguly gives a brilliant answer

There has always been a debate over the best batsman between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. Though there are many experts, who found it tough to give an answer, Sourav Ganguly has come up with a brilliant answer.

Ganguly did not want to compare Kohli and Smith, stressing that the India captain is still the best in the world but Smith’s records speak for itself.

Former Australian skipper Smith strengthened his top position in the ICC Test Rankings for batsmen after the conclusion of the Ashes 2019. Kohli, meanwhile, is sitting behind the Aussie ‘Run-Machine’, on the second position.

Smith’s scores of 80 and 23 in the fifth and final Ashes Test have helped him to remain 34 points ahead of Kohli with 937 rating points. He started the series at No. 4 with 857 points before his surge that came because of scoring 774 runs in just seven innings against England.

“These are questions not to be answered. How does it matter? It’s about performance. Virat is the best in the world at the moment. So that’s what makes us happy,” Ganguly said while speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of Tata Steel Kolkata 25K launch.

The ‘Prince of Kolkata’ also said that India are the favourites to win the T20I and Test series at home against South Africa.

The first T20I of the three-match series got abandoned due to rain in Dharamsala and the second game is scheduled to take place in Mohali on September 18. The Kohli’s men will also play three Tests against the Proteas.

“India are favourites. India at home is a dangerous team. They are very hard to beat and that’s been the case for years,” Ganguly added.
