Rohit Sharma registered his maiden double century in Test cricket on Sunday at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi against South Africa in the third and final match of the Freedom series. It took just 249 deliveries for the Indian opener to reach the milestone.
The right-handed batsman was removed by Kagiso Rabada on 212 and in the course, the 32-year-old became the first Indian opener to register two 150-plus scores in a single Test series.
Rohit, who already has three ODI double tons (264, 209, 208*), joined Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle in the elite list of scoring double centuries in both the Test and ODI formats.

Meanwhile, Rohit took a cheeky dig at the reporters adding that he was under pressure to perform as an opener in the longest format of the game.
“I got a good opportunity to bat up the order and hence I wanted to use it fully. Other many things would have happened, you guys could have written many things about me. But now, you will write good things about me,” the dashing opener said in a press conference after the second day’s play.
“Another classic from yet another Rohit Sharma press conference #TeamIndia #INDvSA”, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote along with the video.
