IND vs SA 3rd Test: Umesh Yadav creates world record with the bat, Twitter is stumped

India fast bowler Umesh Yadav created history with the bat on Sunday as he set the new world record in Test cricket.

On Day 2 of the ongoing third Test between India and South Africa in Ranchi, Umesh scored 31 runs off just 10 deliveries.

During his short stay at the crease, the 31-year-old smashed 5 sixes against left-arm spinner George Linde and broke two records.

First, Umesh became the fastest player in the history of Test cricket to score 30 plus runs with the least amount of balls. With this, he broke Stephen Fleming’s record of scoring 31 runs in 11 balls which was set in 2004.

Secondly, he also recorded a strike rate of 310 with the bat in his innings, which is the highest in a 10 plus ball knock in Test history.

In fact, Umesh also joined a rare list by smashing sixes off the first two balls he faced.

In the 142-year history of Test cricket, there are only two recorded instances of players hitting the first two balls of a Test innings for sixes prior to Umesh. Foffie Williams off the bowling of Jim Laker in 1948 and India’s Sachin Tendulkar against Nathan Lyon in 2013 achieved this feat.

Umesh’s innings included five sixes but no fours. This makes it the first-ever Test innings to witness five or more sixes without a four.

Even Twitter users were pretty happy with the six-hitting spree of Umesh and praised him on the social media platform.
