Quashing all the rumors of Ravichandran Ashwin’s potential move to Delhi Capitals, the co-owner of Kings XI Punjab, Ness Wadia, has confirmed that Ashwin will remain a vital member of the side in IPL 2020.
“Ashwin is an integral part of the team, and he will continue to remain so. You know the value Ashwin brings to the team. There is no question of letting him go,” Ashwin said in an exclusive chat with Sportstar.
Earlier, the speculations were rife that the 33-year-old off-spinner could move to Delhi Capitals in the IPL trade window. Even the Capitals’ advisor, Sourav Ganguly, had publicly shown interest in acquiring the services of Ashwin.
However, the Punjab team management has shown zero interest in releasing their skipper.
“We have seen what [impact] Ashwin has in the Indian team. He is an exceptional player and is not only an asset for the Indian team but also Kings XI Punjab,” Wadia added.
Preity Zinta, the other co-owner of KXIP, had bought Ashwin in the 2018 IPL Auction, and the Chennai-born cricketer has been the captain of the Punjab outfit since then.
Also, the runners-up of IPL 2014 have appointed Anil Kumble as their head coach for the upcoming season.
Kumble has previously served as Team India’s head coach in 2016-17, but this will be his first coaching role with an IPL franchise. He was involved as a player and captain with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) before joining the team as a mentor later on.
