Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Virender Sehwag, and Brett Lee are among the big names set to participate in a T20 tournament aimed at promoting road safety, called the Road Safety World Series.
Some other prominent names that are set to be part of the tournament include Jacques Kallis, Muttiah Muralitharan, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Jonty Rhodes, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
The first season of the tournament will be played from February 2 to 16, 2020, in Mumbai and will feature the following teams: India Legends, Australia Legends, South Africa Legends, Sri Lanka Legends, and West Indies Legends.
According to ESPNCricinfo, a total of 110 players – all retired – have confirmed their participation in the tournament, which would be based on the franchise model prevailing across domestic T20 leagues around the world. The participating teams have been restricted to only Test-playing countries for the first season.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also given the nod to this tournament by issuing a No-Objection Certificate to the organizers to promote the Road Safety World Series as an annual event.
Swachh Bharat Surakshit Bharat promotes the tournament, a trust working closely with the RTO department of Maharashtra and it is conceptualized by the Professional Management Group (PMG).
Tendulkar is the Brand Ambassador of the World Series, and Viacom 18 are the broadcast partners. Jio and Voot are the digital partners of the tournament.
