Twitter hails Mayank Agarwal for his maiden double century against South Africa

An opening partnership of 317 between Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma helped India post a mammoth total of 502-7 before South Africa limped to 39-3 at the close of play on Day 2 of the first Test in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Mayank (215) turned his maiden Test century into a double becoming just the second batsman in history to score 200 plus in his first innings on Indian soil after Australia’s Dean Jones, who scored 210 in 1986.

Mayank is also the fourth Indian batsman after Karun Nair, Vinod Kambli, and Dilip Sardesai to convert their maiden Test tons into double centuries. Nair smashed 303 against England in 2016, Kambli made 224 against England in 1993 and Sardesai scored 200 not out against New Zealand in 1965.
