Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma lead social media celebration after India whitewash South Africa

Virat Kohli added yet another feather to his already bulky cap but this time as a captain. He led India to their first series whitewash over South Africa in Tests on Tuesday.

Kohli surpassed Mohammed Azharuddin to become the India captain to his team to the most number of series whitewashes in Test cricket. Azhar led India to two series whitewashes under his leadership but Kohli bettered his record with a complete rout of South Africa in the Freedom series.

Before this, Kohli’s brigade had whitewashed New Zealand (3-0) in a home series in 2016 and Sri Lanka (3-0) in an away series in 2017.

After having fun on the ground, Team India players also took to Twitter to comment on their comprehensive series win over the Proteas.

“So proud of this amazing team and the hard work which is put in day in and day out. Onwards and upwards,” captain Kohli tweeted.

“Very assertive and clinical, that’s how I would like to put it across this entire month. Extremely happy to be part of the incredible Indian team,” tweeted Rohit Sharma, who finished as the top run-scorer in the series with 529 runs.
