India opener Rohit Sharma likes to keep things simple off the field as well. And the journalists learned it the hard way on Thursday when they asked the Indian talisman about Shakib Al Hasan’s suspension. The ICC recently banned the Bangladesh all-rounder.
The apex cricketing body has banned Shakib from all cricket for two years (one year of which is suspended).
The ICC charged Jessore-born cricketer for his failure to report the approaches of match-fixing to the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) on three separate occasions.
Shakib, who scored more than 600 runs in the 50-over World Cup earlier this year, can resume playing cricket after October 20, 2020, provided he does not commit any other offense as laid down by the ACSU.
Naturally, the issue of Shakib has been widely discussed across the cricketing fraternity, and the journalists did not leave the opportunity of asking Rohit about the former Bangladesh T20I and Test skipper.
Rohit was interacting with the journalists in an event where he was unveiled as the brand ambassador of the global sports brand Trusox. And soon, one of the journalists asked about Shakib’s suspension. Rohit, who does not like to beat around the bush, was quick to cut the scribe short by retorting: “I am not ICC.”
Meanwhile, Rohit will lead India in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. The three-match series will get underway in Delhi on November 3. After the T20Is, both the teams will lock horns in a two-match Test series.
